Chris Webby “The Underclassmen”
Webby’s been laying in the shadows of white-boy hip hop for far too long. After his epic 5-plus minute freestyle, Webby’s proven his name deserves some shine.
The Underclassmen starts off with Hands Up – a nice introductory track to what Webby brings to the table with his raps. Like to party and knock back some beers? Then Webby is the rapper for you.
It’s not long until we reach one of the standout tracks on the mixtape- I Need a Dollar. Using the production from Aloe Blacc’s hit tune, Webby gives us some of the reasons why he needs some dollars. The listener is able to come to respect Webby’s grind – rapping doesn’t pay the bills for him, but he’s still doing it and releasing his stuff for free. Respect.
The mixtape carries on with some of Webby’s best work yet and great production choices.
The Underclassmen is possibly his best work yet. He’s quick to capture the listener’s attention from the first track, and maintains it throughout the tape in its entirety. Whether it’s tackling topics such as partying, women, relationships, or just life in general, Webby maneuvers his way through words to connect with the listener. This mixtape isn’t for everyone, but easily relatable to the college crowd. Listening to this mixtape shows the listener that Webby is just a normal guy like us – only with better rapping skills.
Standout tracks: I Need A Dollar, Stranger, Strong, Goin’ Down
